I had the honour of being selected for this book to produce some images of a traditional barber. It was a fun photography project that involved meeting men of various ages who visited James the Barber in Aylsham. The experience was very fulfilling and special. To be accepted into an all male environment and listen to their conversations. One particular man said, ” This is a Mans cave. We can come here and talk about our problems and also have a laugh. We are a unity of kindred spirits.” Since I took these images, James has retired and the shop is empty at present. I am glad I had this opportunity to creatively document the energy, characters and uniqueness of this family run barbers shop.
